I use this game with 3rd-5th grades.

Needs: 4 cones, basketball hoop, ball (volleyball, football, any ball), mat/base

Run & Shoot

Game adapted from Mike Hermann, School #1, Rochester City Schools, NY

Two teams at opposite ends of the playing area, each player assigned a number which indicates the order of their turn.
One team shoots for a basket with a designated shooter on the mat/base (that player may not leave the mat), and the other team runs three times around the outside of the 4 cones, touching the top of the cones.
The play begins when a player on the running team throws, hits, bats (or whatever the selected skill might be), past the center line into the other side of the court and then begins to run around the cones.
The rest of their team members counts off the number of times the runner passes the starting cone. When the runner touches the starting cone the third time, the team yells "score."
Meanwhile the shooting team (spread out and "anchored" in the space opposite the "running" team) retrieves the ball a feeds it to the shooter on the mat (or designated spot- I use a jump rope mat. You can use a tire, hula hoop, spot on the floor, etc.)
The shooter shoots at the basket. The team yells "basket" when a basket is made. Point is awarded to whoever scores first. Each person on the team has their turn. When everyone has a turn, switch sides.
If you have an uneven # of players, have the first player go first and again at the end.
You should rotate who goes first so the same player isn't always having two turns.
Change the position of the shooting mat after a complete inning. The runner can run in either direction- it's the same distance. Most of my classes have so much fun that the score doesn't matter.
