Hospital Tag

Level:  Appropriate for 3rd grade and up, beginning level to advanced students, both

             genders

Equipment needed:  Cones (optional) to set play area boundaries

Description:  Set boundaries around a large area (in a gymnasium or court) that students must stay within.  If there is an even number, designate two students as the “virus”.  If there are an odd number of students, designate three students as the “virus”.  The remaining students will pair up, and one student will ride piggyback on the other student.  Each set of partners is considered a “patient”.  Designate one set of partners to be the “doctor”.  The virus will try to tag (infect) each of the patients.  In each set of partners, only the person who is riding piggyback can tag or be tagged.  Once the patients are tagged, they must freeze.  The doctor will try to unfreeze (cure) the patients by tagging them.  Once the patients are tagged by the doctor, they are free to roam again, trying to avoid the virus.  The virus cannot tag the doctor until all patients are frozen.  Once the doctor is tagged, the game is over.

Variations:

1.   Move the boundaries to change the size or shape of the play area

2.      Change the number of doctors or viruses to make the game last longer
