Discuss the common symptoms of diseases that the children have experienced.
(Answers should include; fever, nausea, aches, coughs, stuffiness,
sneezing,
sore throat, dizziness, headache.) Have the students choose
4 or 5 of the
symptoms and set up a target area for each symptom. Identify
each symptom
target with a sign. Targets may include scoop tosses, paddle
strikes,
kicks
at a goal, volleys into a box, etc. Place a number of hair
bands of the
same color at each target area. On "Go!" students may go to
any of the
target areas and try to complete the goal. If they are successful,
they
take a hair band, and display it on their arm. Players continue
until they
have completed all of the goals, when they become "infected."
Once
infected, their goal is to help other players become infected too.
They
can
help by giving verbal cues, encouragement, or strategies to the
other
players. Play continues until all of the class becomes infected.
Play
against other classes by recording the amount of time it takes to
get
everyone infected, or set a goal, and try to beat it.
