Crab Soccer
Objective: To outscore the opposing team
Area Needed: A basketball court is ideal
Equipment: Two or more dodge-ball type balls
Ages: 5 and up
Rules:
The participants are divided up into
even teams (team size is dependent on size of
playing
area). All players must play in a crab-like position. They must be in a seated
position
with
their hands behind them and legs and feet out in front. From that position they
can hold
themselves
up so that their rears are no longer touching the ground. Just like in soccer,
players
may
not use their hands and can only leave the crab position if it is to retrieve a
ball that has
traveled
out of bounds. If a player uses his/her hands, the other team gets a free kick
from the
spot
the the nfraction occured. The only player that can use his/her hands is the
designated
goalie.
The goalie may only use his/her hands to block kicks and balls that may travel
above the
head.
To begin the game two balls are
placed at the center of the playing field. This is called
the
"face off". There can only be three players facing off, so one team
will an advantage. To
determine
which team will get the advantage a coin is tossed. Once the balls are in play,
the only
time
that the game is thereafter stopped is for rule infractions. First team to 5
wins!
